Barrel-Aged Vesper

As James Bond stepped into the dimly lit bar, his eyes scanned the room for any sign of trouble. The air was thick with the smell of alcohol and cigarette smoke, and the sound of a jazz band playing in the corner filled his ears.

He made his way to the bar and took a seat. The bartender approached him and asked, “What can I get for you, sir?”

Bond leaned in and whispered, “I’ll have a Vesper.”

“A Vesper,” Bond repeated firmly. “Shaken, not stirred.”

The bartender nodded and got to work, carefully measuring out the gin and vodka and adding a splash of Kina Lillet. He shook the mixture vigorously and strained it into a chilled martini glass.

Bond took a sip and savored the complex flavors of the drink. It was strong and bold, just like him.
As he sat there, enjoying his Vesper, Bond couldn’t help but feel a sense of satisfaction. He was on a mission, and so far, everything was going according to plan. But he knew that danger was always lurking around the corner, waiting to strike.
With his Vesper in hand, Bond was ready for whatever came his way. He was James Bond, after all – the world’s most famous spy. And nothing could stop him when he had a Vesper and a mission to complete.

Barrel-Aged Vesper

Aging Time

4-5 Weeks

Ingredients

  • 750 ml gin
  • 250 ml vodka
  • 125 ml Lillet Blanc
  • 6 dashes orange bitters

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass or large pitcher.
  2. Stir gently to combine.
  3.  Pour the mixture into a clean, charred oak barrel.
  4. Seal the barrel and store it in a cool, dark place for at least two weeks.
  5. After three weeks, taste the cocktail to see if it has achieved the desired level of barrel aging. If not, continue to age for another week or two, tasting every few days until it’s to your liking.
  6. When ready, strain the cocktail from the barrel into a clean container using a fine-mesh strainer.
  7. Serve the Vesper in chilled coupes or martini glasses, garnished with a twist of lemon or a cocktail onion, if desired.

NOTE:

Barrel aging can significantly alter the flavor of a cocktail, so it’s a good idea to taste the mixture occasionally to ensure that it’s aging to your liking. Additionally, it’s important to properly clean and maintain your barrel to prevent contamination and ensure the best possible flavor.
