The SmartCap is designed to fit quite snugly onto the barrel to allow for an air-tight seal.
The SmartCap is available with (3) sized seal thicknesses to accommodate various-sized barrel diameters.
The seal is designed to expand up to 10% over time when exposed to ethanol vapours ensuring a positive seal on virtually any barrel.
Each SmartCap comes with a closure and closure seal attached to the bung access hole.
1. Determine which size seal thickness is required for the barrel. (Most standard 53-gallon US Bourbon barrels will require SmartCaps with a standard 3/8” seal.)

2. Remove the closure from the SmartCap.
3. Position the SmartCap evenly over the barrel with the rivet recess on the cap lined up with the rivets on the head hoop.
4. Push down firmly on the SmartCap. (Due to the snug fit, the cap will likely not go on all the way.)
~ Method #1 – Using a rubber mallet, tap the cap down evenly the rest of the way.
~ Method #2- If barrels are palletized, follow step #4 on all barrels on the pallet, then place another pallet of barrels on top.
5. Firmly position closure over bung access hole with closure seal affixed.
